Accelerating the decarbonization of Industrial and Commercial sectors in India using Heat Pumps [26] Vortragssprache Englisch

The drastic reduction in prices of solar photovoltaics has enabled firms in India’s Industrial and Commercial sectors to increase the share of green and renewable energy in their total electricity consumption. A similar reduction in electrical energy storage is further hasten this switch to greener electricity. However, the switch to “greener” thermal energy sources has been a slow process. Most of the Industries and Commercial establishments still rely heavily on polluting fossil fuels like Diesel, SKO(Superior Kerosene Oil), Furnace Oil(FO) and Liquified Petroleum Gas(LPG) to meet their heating requirement. However, the increase in the fuel costs and concerns about localised air pollution are prompting these Industrial and Commercial establishments to explore less polluting and less expensive thermal energy sources. In short, the conditions are ripe for the adoption of a technology that can help these sectors to decarbonize their “heating” energy sources. In this presentation, we will share some of the success stories of Heat Pumps in taking the first steps to decarbonizing the Commercial and Industrial sectors. These success stories span multiple industrial sectors, different end uses, varied climatic conditions (Hot, humid regions as well as cool regions) and several type of fuel replacements. Some of them would be as follows. Industrial • Combined Heating and Cooling in the Paint shop of an Automobile manufacturer by replacing LPG fuel. • Diesel Generator Head Preheating using Heat Pumps • Hot Water generation for Washing Glasses • Wastewater Evaporization • Air Heating Commercial - Hotels • A popular tourist resort eliminating its Diesel consumption using Heat Pumps • A Business Hotel completely eliminating fossil fuel(LPG) consumption by switching to Heat Pumps Commercial - Hospitals • A major Hospital chain reducing fossil fuel consumption using Heat Pumps Together, these success stories are a testimony to the sheer versatility of Heat Pumps and their potential to accelerate the decarbonization of industrial and commercial sectors.
