Augmented Reality for Heat Pump Acoustics
Noise means trouble. In addition to traffic and industry, it is also emitted by heating or cooling appliances: Air heat pumps, recoolers, fans and other appliances. AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH developed a method to minimize noise immissions to the population in urban areas. These methods enable simple, intuitive and at the same time accurate handling of noise emissions. Before installation, the sound sources are virtually placed on site in a real environment using augmented reality and the sound emissions are visually displayed in colour. For the calculations, surrounding objects such as walls can be considered. In this way, facades that have not yet been built or soundproofing measures can be added virtually. The aim is to minimise noise emissions from heat pumps and air conditioning units in urban areas. Emissions from noise sources such as evaporators, recoolers, fans, etc. can be visually displayed and heard in real time using augmented reality on site before the heating and cooling units are installed. Surrounding building parts that influence the sound are taken into account in the calculations. With this innovative methodology, the effect of sound-absorbing measures or the orientation of the devices in connection with facades that have not yet been built and various locations can be tested virtually, thus optimizing the noise level of the heating and cooling devices and their impact on the neighborhood. This increases the acceptance and the dissemination of the technologies, increases the share of renewable energies and also contributes to a reduction in noise levels in cities.
