Turboden large-scale HPs beyond 200 °C to play a crucial role in the path for decarbonization of heating sector [32] Vortragssprache Englisch

Turboden, a company within the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries group, specializes in Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems that generate electric and thermal energy. They have developed large-scale Heat Pumps capable of reaching temperatures up to 200 °C. These Heat Pumps offer high efficiency and can produce thermal power ranging from 3 to 30+ MWth per unit. Turboden's expertise lies in heat transfer, high temperatures, innovative design, turbomachinery, and working fluids.

Such systems are highly customized and can be applied efficiently both in industrial sectors (chemical, petrochemical, refinery, pulp & paper, food and beverage, etc.) and in district heating.

Some reference cases will be introduced, such as the following ones.

Ori Martin, a steelworks company, has integrated Turboden's heat pump into its production processes. The heat pump utilizes heat from the furnace cooling circuit to heat water for district heating, raising its temperature from 65 °C to 95 °C. Another heat recovery system raises the water temperature from 95 °C to 120 °C. During periods when the heat recovery system is not operational, the Heat Pump directly generates pressurized water at 120 °C for the district heating network.

In a paper mill in Northern Europe, the Heat Pump utilizes exhaust air and wastewater intercepted by an intermediate water circuit. The Heat Pump raises the temperature of the condensate from 100 °C to 170 °C, producing superheated steam. A mechanical vapor recompression compressor is used to achieve the desired temperature and pressure.

The heating sector is a significant source of carbon emissions. Turboden's technology aims to decarbonize heat-intensive applications by providing products to the district heating sector and energy-intensive industries. Around 1,100 TWh of heat generated from fossil fuels in Europe could be decarbonized using Turboden's technology, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions.
