High-calibre congress programme impressed
On 24 and 25 October 2017, the European Heat Pump Summit enjoyed another successful run at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg. For the fifth time, European and international heat pump experts gathered to discuss the commercial and industrial use of heat pumps and explore the associated applications in detail at an event which put the spotlight on professional dialogue and in-depth knowledge transfer. An impressive foyer expo with 20 exhibitors, a good third of which came from countries other than Germany, provided a fitting complement to the congress.

The European Heat Pump Summit inspired participants yet again with a wealth of expert knowledge. In recent years, the heat pump has become established as a standard solution for heating residential buildings, especially single and multiple family homes. In his presentation, EHPA's Thomas Nowak reported that a million heat pumps were sold in Europe for the first time in 2016, while the 10th millionth heat pump was set to be installed before the end of 2017.
But it's not just in Europe that the heat pump is gaining ground. By as early as 2025, India will be the third-largest economy in the world ahead of Germany, and its greatest energy demand will be for industry. According to the presentation “Unlocking the Potential” by Madhavan Nampoothiri from India, huge potential is forecast for industrial heat pumps with temperatures of up to 100°C for use in a wide range of sectors. This served to confirm the message of other presentations by speakers from Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and France, who highlighted the use of heat pumps with greater capacities in industrial and commercial applications. In Japan, the industrial heat pump (IHP) has probably made the greatest inroads as it increases in importance. Worldwide, the IHP is significantly more important than in Germany. Commercial and industrial users and policymakers in Germany are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of the heat pump for achieving energy and cost savings and substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These advantages received substantial coverage at the European Heat Pump Summit.
The Tuesday afternoon was dedicated to the issue of research and development. Presentations by speakers from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria and Germany provided a comprehensive picture of the R&D landscape and its thematic focus areas.
The second day of the summit was devoted primarily to manufacturers of components and systems, who described the very interesting progress being made with specific components, simple ways to install and commission heat pumps, and in successfully meeting the needs and requirements of various target groups. A bonus for delegates was that many of the speakers could subsequently demonstrate the innovations directly to the audience at the adjacent Foyer Expo.

The accompanying Foyer Expo, featuring a total of 20 companies and associations, was a fitting complement to the congress presentations. It offered congress attendees the opportunity to take a close look at product presentations by renowned German and international component and heat pump manufacturers and associations in an unhurried atmosphere. Over the two days, the focus here was also on professional dialogue.
