Heat source integration for boiler replacement
Limitations of individual heat sources at higher capacities, in particular for boiler replacement in the existing built environment, can be overcome by integration of multiple heat sources. Synergies among sources can yield higher performance and economic benefits and outperform individual sources.

Session description
Heat pumps (HP) are expected to become the dominating heating system in many countries. However, market shares of larger HP, particularly in existing buildings are still limited. One limitation for larger HP capacities are suitable heat sources (HS), especially in renovation cases, where limitations of the HS by the built environment can become a major obstacle.
One option to overcome limitations can be the integration of multiple HS, in particular, if synergies among the HS can be used. A detailed assessment of HS integration regarding design, control and performance has been accomplished by system simulations and field monitoring. Moreover, costs and economy of the integration have been analysed.
The investigations show that e.g. for a peak load HS, design can be significant ...
